The Man… Joan Esteve Nadal is the patriarch of the family. He is a renaissance man who keeps his Harley inside his 16th century villa, fixes cuckoo clocks for a hobby, and uses a 300 year old farming book as a reference and guide for his operation. The family also makes ceramic tiles, depicting different viticulture cycles. Their capsules on each bottle of Cava are copies of these tiles.
The Winery... Lluís Esteve, Joan's son, is the winemaker today. Their estate has a long history that goes back centuries. Notably, after phyloxerra wiped out the estates' vineyards, their ancestor Joan Esteve Marco sought out new resistant vines, replanted and started over in 1889 to keep alive the family's tradition.
The Vineyards... The vineyards are divided between four farms, organic methods are used in the fields, and a wide variety of grapes is grown. Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo are blended for Avinyo's Cava, Pinot Noir is vinified for the Cava Rosado, Muscat for the Vi d'Agulla, and Merlot for the Vi d'Agulla Rosado, among others.
