The Family... Brothers, Paolo and Walter Anfosso run the DeForville estate. Their family has deep roots in the area where they now farm. The DeForvilles settled into the village of Barbaresco in 1860, after emigrating to the Piedmont from Belgium. They soon after began tending Nebbiolo vines near their village. In 1907 Paolo Anfosso, of the neighboring town Castagnole delle Lanze, married a DeForville, and took over the family business. Until 1940, when they began bottling under their own label, their wine was sold off in bulk each year.
The Vineyards... The Anfossos grow Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Chardonnay on about 9 acres around the village of Barbaresco. And six miles away, in Castagnole delle Lanze, they grow Moscato, Grignolino and Barbera. Their wines cover just about every desirable style of Piemontese wine, from sweet fizzy, to dark, dry and earthy. Their Barbaresco vines are in the noteable vineyards Rabajà, Loreto and Pozzo.
