The Family... Deux Anes Corbieres was founded by Magali and Dominique Terrier, Burgundians presumably in search of some sunshine, or land that didn’t cost a million bucks an acre. Today Magali minds the cellar while Dominique tends to the vines of this 60-hectare estate. In case you’re worried that 60 hectares is too much for one vigneron, only a third of their land is planted to vine. The rest is left unfarmed, to provide a balanced ecosystem surrounding their fields. The natural vegetation also offers a bit of a buffer from winds coming off the Mediterranean. The
Farming... Domaine Deux Anes is a certified organic estate. The Terriers also farm in accordance with biodynamic principles. Their land is steep, and slopes down from an elevation of 120 meters into the sea. The soil on this edge of Corbieres is a mix of red clay and limestone. The AOC of Corbieres stretches from Carcassonne in the east to the Roussillon, in the shadow of the Pyrenees. There are numerous subregions of varied terroir and quality across this large zone. Large-scale low-quality agriculture may still be the norm in much of Corbieres (which produces more wine than any other region in the Languedoc) but estates like Deux Anes are articulating a future away from the vin ordinaire of Corbieres’ past.
The Wine... L’Enclos is a blend of mostly Grenache with Carignan, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The yield of the vineyard is very low at 25 ha/hl. Fermentation occurs with just indigenous yeasts, and when complete the wine ages both in French oak and stainless steel.
