My Dinner with Wine Feb 7, 2009: Potato Tart

My dinner is probably not hugely interesting to you. But anecdotal evidence is better than totally groundless opinion, so here it goes. Last night I bought a Scratch Baking Potato/Lemon/Mint pie and headed out for my home in the wilderness. I was feeling lazy, but not in a "any food will do" sort of way. Just too weary to begin the shopping/cooking process from step one. My rigorous wine selection process led me to the one white already chilled in my fridge, an organic Gruner Veltliner from the Wagram region of Austria. In the interests of fairness/indulgence I also opened a bottle of Alsatian Pinot Noir, organic, unfiltered and filled with tart cherry juiciness. There wasn't a clear winner between the two wines. The mint and lemon accentuated our Austrian white's clean, aromatic side while the texture of the red was more appropriate for a potato-based, crusty, savory tart. I happily went back and forth between the wines.
So 3CUPS isn't a grocery store, but quick and easy dinner options abound for the food-aware person on the go. Products used in this experiment:
1 Scratch Baking (Phoebe Lawless) large pie $17.99 feeds 4, or 2 Jay Murries
1 2005 Binner Pinot Noir $19.99
1 2007 Wimmer Czerny Gruner Veltliner $19.99
