The wine... Eye-openingly clean, "Quarzit" gets its mineral point across alongside lovely fresh citrus and a wash of aromas that add up to nearly all that's dear to us about Riesling.

The estate... Harald Hexamer farms 18 prime hectares in the Nahe. His home region is less legendary than relative neighbors Rheingau and Mosel but shares equal esteem to many Riesling drinkers and collectors. The laundry list of undisputedly outstanding wine producers in this region is long, and growing. Hexamer earns its place with wines that share vibrancy and intensity while also letting the great Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg say what it has to say.

The wine... Eye-openingly clean, "Quarzit" gets its mineral point across alongside lovely fresh citrus and a wash of aromas that add up to nearly all that's dear to us about Riesling. We say archetype too much, so call this one a regional benchmark. Our picnic recommendation is a bag-full of ripe peaches and a bottle of Hexamer.

The grape... Still suffering from the delusion that you don't like Riesling? It turns out that you just don't like bad Riesling. Imagine tethering your estimation of beer to experiences with Keystone light, or avoiding beef because of the brown substance found at the core of many Taco Bell menu items. Now that we've got that misunderstanding cleared up, time to venture out into the real stuff that makes many (author included) certain Riesling is the finest white wine grape grown on planet earth. Hexamer needs to be an early point of call on this voyage of discovery. Roam around the Nahe and your drinking life will improve immeasurably.
