Minervois v. St-Chinian

April 21, 2011

MinervoisAre we hosting a Ligue 3 football match? Maybe the title for this free wine tasting should be Remy v. Nicole. But they are friends! Still, I want to stir up some regional rivalries. Or maybe coax out some truths about the character of the neighboring Languedoc appellations that Remy Soulie and Nicole Bojanowski inhabit.

We have a slew of new releases from these two great Mediterranean estates, certified-organic reds, whites, and roses that can be swirled and discussed endlessly, or just purchased and guzzled with your weekend dinner.  Come taste eight great wines (did I mention for free!) and flip through my trip photos, listen to fond reminiscences of cold hours touring the winter landscape of this stark, beautiful land.Jay Murrie This Saturday, 1-3pm.

Friday Fresh: Kiryama, Kayanza, Burundi

Friday Fresh: Kiryama, Kayanza, BurundiFriday Fresh: Kiryama from Kayanza, Burundi

I am very excited to be continuing our relationship with Kiryama. The coffee comes along just in time, as we say goodbye for the year to the very popular Buziraguhindwa coffees, also from Burundi. Kiryama is a washing station that brings together a true community of coffee growers in an area called Kayanza. Coffee is grown literally in the back yards of over 1,000 small families in this community at an altitude over 1700 meters. It is incredible to me that a coffee with such delicate flavors can be produced in this way. This year’s harvest has more of the honey and fruit in the cup that I remember from last year. It is light and pretty with ever-present citrus and floral sweetness. Refreshingly bright, it sits perfectly alongside a breakfast of mixed fruit, local yogurt, and fresh granola. If you enjoy your coffee dripped and unadorned then I am betting Kiryama will be your new favorite.Matt Souza
